This is explained in corvid intelligence tests where researchers hang up meat from a piece of string from a branch, and the bird problem solves to get the meat easily. In addition, birds also use tools like stones to crack eggs. Spiders have never, ever demonstrated this kind of intelligence. Mainly because their brains aren't as complex.
