  • AAWwwwwww i love him i want one but not a spider
  • Bought a red knee sling its awesome, got a bit nervous on ride home though. Has a bald spot on its butt.
  • I hate spiders soooo much, but for some reason I like these ones.
  • I've made up my mind, next reptile show I'm bringing one home.
  • Your hands and arms are filthy.
  • I live in California. My female Mexican Redknee (Brachypelma Smithi) is almost 11 years old. I bought her through an online pet store that breeds tarantulas and they guaranteed me a female. She was tiny when I got her, and I was living in Ohio, at the time. I even kept most of her molts :)I only feed her crickets. I don't provide her with any water or shelter. I occasionally spray the walls of her terrarium to maintain proper humidity. I have an electrical heat pad that is glued to the bottom of the exterior of the terrarium. I plug it in during the colder months. Once in a while, I will gently take her out of her terrarium so that I can admire her more closely and interact with her. On occasion, she will flick her urticating hairs during the extrication process, but I wash my hands thoroughly after I have handled her. I will let her rest inside my hand, and she will just sit there, calmly, most likely enjoying the heat radiating from my hand. I will pet her abdomen, and she won't budge. I will also gently stroke her legs, and sometimes lift her feet, up and down. She never objects to the attention I am giving her. I love my tarantula :)
  • Feeding mice to tarantulas is also bad for them because mice are like calcium central, and tarantulas cannot intake calcium which will lead to molting problems because the calcium has hardened the exoskeleton to the point where it could get stuck in a molt.
  • Expert!? Sponges in water bowls is a very bad idea because it holds humidity and encourages mold growth which can be harmful to spiders.
  • Beautiful just beautiful. Can't wait to get one :D
  • I can remember when I was about 7 I LOVED bugs. When I was about that age we took a trip to Alabama to see my cousin. (My family only has ONE COUSIN. My family lives in Louisiana, and we went to Alabama) A few days after we were at my cousins house we all agreed to have fun and go to the woods in Alabama. We agreed to split up, take pictures if we needed, or just explore around the wild life to get a good scene. I saw a red and black striped tarantula, JUST LIKE THAT ONE. Back then I didn't know you had to TAME THE BUG for it to be nice and tolerant. I walked over to it, and tried to pet it's back. What does it do next? IT KICKS HAIRS RIGHT AT MY FACE. I couldn't see anything, then I actually got into a WASP NEST. I got stung by all of them and then I couldn't see, and I was crying. Then can it get worse than this? I fall down a hill and INTO THE MUD. I was screaming for everyone to come help me. The only person that found me was my cousin, because she was was walking through another path. She said she had to go through poison ivy and trees to come and get me but she said it was ok. She had to carry ME because I was hurt, couldn't see and all dirty. We weren't allowed to have cell phones at that age, so we had to find everyone else to go home the old school way. me and my cousin then found my big brother and he said HE got bitten by a Goliath beetle. he said it didn't hurt that much but it was a little swollen. Then we had to find my mom and my nanny, we did NOT EVEN KNOW, they were OUTSIDE the woods, in the street. It took us an hour to find the way out, and we all went to my cousins house. after we were all completely healed and clean, me and my big brother had to go home. and NEVER AGAIN we went to the wildlife. Now if I see a cockroach dancing on his back MY GOD IT SCARES THE CRAP OUTTA ME.
  • I just purchased a RedKnee its about a inch in size. I would like to start handling her so she will become accustomed to being handled. She's skittish and a hair flicker at the moment. When is a good time to start handling?
  • 25 years? DAMN
  • Same here. :D
  • For most of the common species, it's better to feed dubia roaches, gutloaded crickets and the occasional worm. The mice are a bit much for one meal, plus they are not as easy for the tarantula to digest. They can also kill the tarantula with a bite because they can pop sort of like a grape. I keep mice, so I couldn't do it either. I've worked with snakes and I knock the mouse out clean to save it the suffering (and protect the snake). Short answer: Get a tarantula, they're awesome!
  • Comment 1: Well, I love watching my tarantulas and I like feeding them. They are great observation animals. I used to be extremely terrified by the common house spider as I would have to get a family member to remove it. And I would have never touched a photo of a spider. That scared. I have not fully conquered my fear but I have tamed it. I can tolerate regular spiders now even though they creep me out. This is coming from a man BTW. I do feel at ease with my tarantulas as they are my pets.
  • Yes, ab123110 is right (tarantulaguy1976 and jon3800 are great tarantula people and consultants, Jon even replied to a few of my messages!) I have 4 Ts and a scorpion and they are great! If you want to get a tarantula, which I totally suggest, you might want to check out jamiestarantulas(DOT)com. I have a couple of tarantulas from her and it's only $15 shipping! Do you research before buying one, and feel free to ask me any questions as well!
  • yes this i think would be my favorite kind of tarantula(even though im arachnaphobic) i have two questions though...where in america can you buy these? because where i live i only see chilean rosehairs and pink toes and 2nd of all how much would a mex. red knee cost?
  • why were you holding it up so high? what if it fell & you accidently killed it? to those watching this NEVER hold your spider that high!!!! sit on the floor or on a bed...just sayin.... pretty spider tho!!! I cant wait for my red knee to be that big
  • Feeding T's tiny mammals is a recipe for disaster. Not only does the raw meat and blood tissue serve no nutritional value to the T, but the taste of blood can and will make them aggressive.
  • I have an AF 4.5" Grammostola rosea (Chilean rose hair tarantula), a 1.5" Grammostola pulchripes (Chaco golden knee tarantula), a .5" Lasiodora parahybana (Salmon pink birdeater tarantula), and a .5" Brachypelma vagans (Mexican red rump tarantula), as well as a male 5-6" Pandinus imperator (emperor scorpion). I love these arachnids!
  • @geobeats i would love to have a tarantula. i'm in the process of getting a G. Rosea so i'm quite excited :D
  • Yours is a baldy butt too LOL my Mexican red knee is a baldy too. She uses her back legs to scratch. I loves them, Blessings
  • What about the B. Albiceps? I have heard that these are also excellent Ts to own.
  • you need a ricola
  • They're beautiful!! We have some tarantula videos on our channel if you'd like to check them out. :)
  • Where can I get one
  • Beautiful animal, but doesn't change the fact I'm damn terrified of them!
  • No, I would not have one. insect and spider phobia.
  • Absolutely Tarantulas are beautiful animals
  • you cant give them a sponge for the water! that kills them you idiot...
  • Thanx for your answer, it's encouraging.I'm trying to do the same, documenting on spiders and possibly visiting arachnids and reptiles exibits; I have a strong passion for indios culture and shamanism so my aim is to go to the Amazons in a very close future; that's why I need to get rid of this phobia, in order to enjoy the travel and keep calm even if a big spider shows up.Do u actually feel at ease in the presence of a big spider now? Congratulations if u succeded in "taming" your own fear..
  • Can u buy Mexican red knees in Canada
  • I used to like them and want one. But after a coming in contact with one, it's hairs rubbed off on me and my parents said no. So I got a hamster. But the hamster is gone and now I am starting to think about getting a tarantula. I have heard that a rose hair an be iffy. What are these like?
  • Tarantulas are the least spider I am scared of that's weird
  • I have this spiceies I have three im a bit confused should I get rid of the massive foliage in the enclosures because I don't know my spider dosent act diferent
  • LOL! xD
  • any1 know any tarantulas that get that size wen fully grown?
  • hey does she often flick hairs
  • No my daughter is terrified or I would have had one for a long time :)
  • I have a Chilean Rose Hair which I have not yet managed to pluck up the courage to handle her yet due to their moods swings. I notice one mistake in this video, and that is when you mention adding a piece of sponge to the water bowl to prevent the spider from drowning, this is in fact a bad idea as sponge is capable of harnessing harmful bacteria and mites. Not good for the spider. Great video to watch though and a beautiful red knee.
  • Would you keep a tarantula as a pet? Tell us in comments!
  • I was an aranophobe? Why am I finding these things to be possibly a good alternative to a cat for a young adult?
  • Comment 3: Now if memory serves correct the Amazon is located in the Americas. Tarantulas living in the Americas are called New World tarantulas. If threatened they rather flee or fling their hairs instead of striking a defensive pose. Very skittish creatures they are. I would suggest watching TarantulaGuy1976 or Jon3800. They have a pretty substantial collection of videos and tarantulas. Good luck!
  • @geobeats yeah .. she tried to get over the phobia though :)
  • half the shit he said was wrong, sponges attract bacteria, mice are linked to wet molts, and heat lamps are only good for lizards as spiders can be killed by concentrated heat which is why people usually have heated Tarantula rooms
  • eww
  • I was the same way about spiders for a long time but you grow to really respect them for their uniqueness and the fact that they help keep your home free from other pests.
  • How is it possible to feel attraction and repulsion for this kind of spiders at the same time? I mean, I recognize spiders are marvallous creatures, but I can't help getting terribly scared and losing control if any pops up close to me. Nice video anyway!
