  • i have a rose hair. he's really friendly but i was holding him today and he started scratching his abdomen with his leg. it left a brown powder on my hand. did he kick hairs at me?
  • But My Cuzins Keep Mesing wit my spider so she would do webs and they would mess them up then she would stay in a spot fr a hole day then the next day she would move to anothiner place and stay sholud i be worried?
  • I havent held mine since she kicked hairs at me. But lately i have been trying to pick her up and she runs off. Im not sure maybe she is about to molt, since she is pretty small. Im also scared of her kicking the hairs again, since the hairs made my hands all itchy and irritated for about a whole week. Any advice?
  • ya he just doesnt feed her :(
  • Hi. I have a Rose hair. It lets me hold it without any problems but when I put it back in the tank it just sits there. Even at night. It doesn't move at all. If you could help that would be great. Thanks.
  • @Zibith its not balding its flicking lots of hairs
  • so i take it tht you shunt try to handle em wen there abouts to molt
  • Sometimes she'll eat and sometimes they wont. Typical for this genus
  • my tarantula only molted 3 times and they were yearly around the same time every year..in augest.. m0ost of the time they will act differently and will not eat...DO NOT put food in there for about a week after they finish moulting or during the moult cuz they are very vunerable if they are on their backs
  • G. Rosea are known to be pet rocks. Not move much and not be too active. A photo of her would help me see if she was in pre molt or about to lay eggs. Most rose hair's from pet stores are wild caught. Thus they might be ready to drop eggs due to mating in the wild. I wouldnt worrie to much if she is feeding then you should be ok.
  • thanks for the advice
  • hehe thanks but that was back when I was 12 sold her for an iguana back about 10 years ago
  • haha yea on smaller animals it causes them 2 get irritated from the throat so they die cause they cant breath, but yea for u it will only cause some annoying ass scratching and if its on ur eyes its gonna suck believe me
  • chilean rose hairs are known to go on long fasts where they don't eat that's why they are not the best beginner species although many people think it is
  • @Zibith You might only get one more molt out of her..
  • @mjellyg Hello there :D Its been a great honor watching some of your most amazing video because, i too love tarantulas. I got one question, i am about to purchase, a little tiny two inch baby King Baboon from a local pet shop close to my home. How can you tell if this little King Baboon's a Male, or a Female?? Most people who owns tarantulas such as myself only tells me that you can only tell their gender if both genders are fully grown. I just subscribed :D
  • my son has a rose hair and I am unsure of it's age...she is healthy...it looks like she has laid an egg and she is building up a web at the entrance of her lair...she hasn't been near any males in at least 3 months since he got her...is this a phantom egg...can this egg hatch and what's up with the web?
  • Only if you raise them from when they were young. Besides, not every day because it stresses them out and that can shorten their life span. I want mines to last at least as long as 10 years for me, because I want a pet that I can have for a long time. A female Grammostola rosea is perfect for me. It fits all my needs!
  • its a male
  • My adult rose hasn't molted in like 7 years. Looks exactly like yours. I long wait the day till she has a pink carapace
  • I've only handled mine once, and it was when I was switching her to a ten galleon enclosure.. Let the spider come to your hand and watch out for any sign of defensiveness. If it's kicking hairs and retreats to its hiding spot, don't try unless you want to risk being tagged. If it's remaining calm, guide it to your hand. Before even attempting to handle it, I'd advise giving it a very, very light prod with a soft paintbrush so that she knows you're in her area and not food.
  • @mjellyg I'm happy to say she shed last month just as nicely as she did when she was younger.
  • my friend just gave me his tarantula to look after cause he doesnt take care of it.. its abdomin is three times smaller than that ones :( soo sad
  • I bought a rose hair tarantula on sunday this is the first time owning a spider but the last night or so i noticed that it was on the wall of the aquarium and then it falls to the bottom of the tank :( is it sick or something?
  • I have a rose hair she is molting but she is layin on her stomach is that ok for her to do that
  • mine is making its bed right now
  • feed it
  • beautiful setup and spider
  • I have the same problem =/ not eaten since we had him/her!
  • its like a girl going on their monthly thing, cus the spider gets stressed just like the girl and ect. :)
  • I have a Chilean Rose Hair and its a male. Mine has gone through stages where he hasnt eatin for long periods of time. This isnt as big of a problem as you think. Chilean Rose Hairs can fast for long periods of time. weeks even months before you feed it, so you dont have to get nervous after a week, but try again after like three weeks to a month.
  • @oxygeninduced I also want to handle her so she isnt so aggresive later, but I don't wanna risk going through 2 weeks of itching again. Its not worth it. But yea, good idea about the gloves and long sleeve shirt. haha When you say clean her tank, how so? I dont know WHAT to clean. :o
  • do you have a Brachypelma Ruhnaui/Albiceps? im getting one and i was wondering if you could give me some pointers
  • @mjellyg She just passed her 26th birthday, and she shed about 2 months ago. Still going strong!
  • Actually, the females of this species can live up to 25 years of age. Jon3800 has had a chilean rose for about ten years now.
  • She is beautiful! How old is she?
  • rose hairs can fast for up to 6 months
  • I just got a G Rosea, sub-adult. I've heard a few things for the heating for them. I've been told I could use a red light for her at about 60 watts or less, space heating a room to 75-80* F, or a heat pad. What do you recommend for her? I've only had her for about a day now, and I don't want to kill her by space heating. Many thanks
  • only got mine to eat to day after 8 month
  • sounds like a typical G. rosea.. some people call them pet rocks. Because there lazy less active then other tarantulas. I dont think you have anything to worrie about. Just keep a eye on her. If she eats then she is fine.
  • yes.
  • @SpinninTom She was due for a shed, it had been quite a few years since her last one, but she finally shed, and she looks perfect again!
  • how do you tell the difference between a male and a female rose
  • hi yours looks so healthy and well fed ive had a chile rose for quite a while now its a male its abdomen has never been big probably because it doesnt seem to eat. in all the time we have had our spider sammy hes had one locust. he hasn't had anything since wich then please help thanks
  • @justinkinstle Lights can kill and dry out tarantulas If you use a mat, put it on one side of the enclosure though it's really not needed. Rule of thumb; if your comfortable, your tarantula is too
  • i love rose hairs
  • do u recommend a chilean rose hair over a emperor scorpion?
  • if she is a wild caught tarantula she might be laying eggs. I had one do the same thing and she had a egg sac...
