• Solifuges do not live 3-5 years, though the biology of many species is poorly understood most species are thought to live only up to one year with very few known to reach 2 years. That is one of the main reasons these arachnids do not make good pets but they sure are fascinating.

• I actually caught one of these in New Mexico and kept it for a few weeks. It literally started trying to saw its way out of the cage and didn't want to eat stuff for the last week I had it. So I decided to return him to the wild. He was by far the coolest invertebrate I ever had and only kept him for a short time. They also have AWESOME burrowing behavior where they shovel dirt with those jaws and then sort of nestle themselves into little holes they make for themself haha! He was INSANELY fast but smaller than this one.Fed him a moth as his first meal and it disappeared in a puff of moth dust haha! When I first spotted him he was flying across the desert! I had to actual keep a quick walking pace to stay with him. I thought he was a scorpion but when I got closer and he quit running all over the place he started throwing his pedipalps up like "whats up???" I was like o_0 What the HELL is this thing??? For the record I researched him and found out what he was PRE-Iraq war so I knew it was BS as soon as the legends started popping up. Good old Rocky... craziest chainsaw killer of the bug world I ever knew!
• It is interesting to learn about these animals, but I strongly disagree with keeping them as "pets". That robs them of their very nature. I don't agree with keeping dogs or cats as pets either. As workers/service animals, OK, but to just be neglected animals to satisfy the selfish needs of a human? No.

• just saw my first one tonight. i live in an upstairs apt and have like a short narrow hallway to get down to bottom level and this lil bastard was positioned RIGHT where i had to run UNDER him to get too my bottom gate. ive only lived here in AZ for a lil more than a year and had no idea what the hell it was. Looked like a scorpion with no tail and moved QUICK. If i had a flame thrower i woulda used it.
